At The Vocal Development Studio, our purpose is to create a learning environment that will assist and encourage each individual to achieve his or her full potential as a vocalist and performer, while achieving and maintaining maximum vocal health. In order to do so, we offer a well- rounded educational experience, catering to all aspects of a singer’s educational needs.
In addition to private lessons, we also offer performance training, audition preparation, recording session preparation, and on-site session coaching. A variety of specialized services are also offered via workshops and clinics. These are presented on a periodic basis and feature special guest lecturers. Please see our workshops section for details.
Our Studio, established in 2003, is unlike any other studio in the area. In addition to spacious sound-deadened practice rooms,(which allow students to hone their craft without distractions) and state-of-the-art acoustic ceiling tiles,(to promote better sound for ongoing lessons) each individual room is equipped with its own CDG karaoke system and our studio’s main room boasts its very own stage and sound system!
She trained extensively under such respected coaches as Katie Lindner-Tetzel, formerly of New Bedford, MA and the late Jeannie Deva of Jeannie Deva Voice Studios™. She also studied and trained under the late Mdme. Jacqueline Cobert of UMass, Dartmouth and she holds a Level 1 Certification in Somatic Voice Work/The Jeanette LoVetri Method. In 1993, Ms. Perry had the honor of being asked to take over Ms. Tetzel's teaching practice when the latter relocated. Then in 1998, Debra began teaching for Ms. Deva as well, even opening and running a satellite studio annex for Ms. Deva on Cape Cod. Debra's vast knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of the voice provides a singer with the tools necessary to acquire and maintain quality sound and control over their instrument, thereby gaining greater confidence and mastery of performance, while maintaining vocal health. This in turn, has gained her recognition in the medical community, providing her with recommendations from area ENTs, Voice Therapists, and Speech Pathologists, as well as affording her the opportunity to work alongside such respected professionals.
In addition to her teaching and performing, Ms. Perry has also worked as vocal director for area productions from here to Cape Cod and has produced and directed her own studio Vocal Showcase for the past several years. She has also served as a recording session vocal coach at several studios throughout M.A. and R.I. , which gained her the honor of working alongside such musical greats as Dinky Dawson and Denny Dias!
Many of her past and present students have achieved great success performing professionally, both on the local, national, and international level. Some have been signed to major record labels themselves, while others have had the honor of opening for national recording acts. These include Devin Lima of LFO and Cadbury Diesel, Shawn Gallagher of Beyond the Embrace and International recording artist Aoife Clancy.
The studio and workshops have been featured in articles in The Phoenix, The Standard Times, and The South Coast Insider, and Debra’s students have been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, Billboard Magazine, Guitar Player, Metal Maniacs, AMP, Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, The Wareham Courier, and Limelight Magazine, and have appeared on and performed on The Grammys, MTV, Regis and Kathy Lee, The NAMM Show, Disney, and The Macy’s Day Parade.
